Profile of Mrs Gadija Brown
Honorable MEC Gadija Brown officially joined the Free State Provincial Treasury as MEC for finance on 28 May 2019, after serving the department of Public Works and Infrastructure as Head of Department (HOD) since 01 April 2018. Prior to that, she also served the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) in the same capacity as
Head of Department for a period of two years.
She holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Management and Leadership, which she obtained from the University of the Free State in 2011. MEC for Finance, Honourable Brown also holds various certification in Business banking (2011); leadership programme (2007); Banking (2001) and Computer Programming A+ (2000).
She is well versed and versatile person in the banking and business sector, with work experience that spans over a period of 19 years. Her experience and exposure to both the private and public sector in strategic Managerial and Leadership positions has deservedly equipped her to serve in her current position as the MEC for Finance For Free State Provincial Treasury.
Some of the leadership positions she served since joining the public sector include, the position of Chief Financial Officer, Deputy Director General for Economic Development and subsequently, that of HOD at DESTEA.
MEC Brown also contributed immensely as a member of the Economic and Infrastructure Cluster as well as the member of the Board for both the Free State Liquor and Gambling Authority, as well as the Free State Development Corporation and this was by virtue of being the Accounting Officer responsible for the two entities. Served in the ANC in her capacity as a volunteer and by invitation as Representative in the economic cluster, Representative of the Provincial Cluster, Representative in Policy conference on Economy, Representative in ANC Land summit
While in the banking and finance sector, she served as the Account Executive for Public Sector, Commercial Banking and Change Manager (Credit operations) at standard bank.
She now joins a dynamic team of professionals at Provincial Treasury with a goal of bringing her professional expertise to the team, to better serve the community of the Free State diligently and selflessly.
