Bleomfontein- the recently released Cuban Five received a warm hero’s welcome from the Free State Premier Ace Magashule and his cabinet.
Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González were arrested and convicted in the US in 1998 for espionage. The five men joined Magashule in the unveiling ceremony of the renaming the two government buildings to OR Tambo House formally known as Lebohang Building and to Fidel Castro which was known as CR Swart Building then Provincial Government Building. The new names were announced by Premier Magashule during his state of the province address this year.
Magashule commended Cubans for their continued support for the country. “Their visit in the province is an opportunity to rejoice the close ties between the Province and Cuba. Cuba has always helped the province with education and skilled personnel such as doctors, nurses and engineers.” Said Magashule.
